The Adriatic Sea
The Adriatic Sea or Adria has gotten its name after an ancient harbour. Today's city of Adria is in Italy, about 38 kilometers from the sea. Long ago, it actually used to be on the coast, but due to the geological forces, the same ones that caused the northitalian coast to rise and the southern one to ebb, we find its present location inwards.
The Adriatic is situated between the Balkan and Appenine penninsula. Croatian coast is on the east side, and it stretches from Prevlaka in the south to the cape of Savurdija in the west, including all the islands, isles and coves along the coast (over 1 700 of them) as well as Palagruža archipelago. As such, it is a unique European area for cruising on motor-boats, speed-boats, sailing, and diving.
